Made In China

So when you are shopping at the Gap, or at some other designer store, and you see that the clothing there is made in China, India, the Phillipines, or Mexico, do you ever stop and ask yourself, "then why the hell am i about to pay top dollar for this brand?" It seems to me that if they are advertising the fact that they've outsourced the labor to cheap factories then the savings should be passed on to me, the consumer. But that will never be the case. I'm not saying outsourcing is bad, but maybe I'm just saying that we are all way more brainwashed by marketers than we think we are.

My question to you is, what other choice do we have? When I walk into Express and decide to buy a $30 shirt that I've been eyeing for a week, even if the label says "Made in China," I still want the shirt! It's easier than going to China to get it. Yes, we're all getting screwed. But just like gas prices, the prices get jacked up because all of us consumer-driven suckers still fork out the dough.

Yep, hence the last part of my post about being subjected to the marketing powers that be. Maybe we start our own business in the states, make everything in the US and hire all the BYU students to work for $5.65/hr to make everything?
